2017 Annual Conference: Kids, Court and Play Therapy

This 14 CEU, 2 day conference will help provide critical information of what therapists and other mandated reporters will need to know to best help their clients and themselves in the judicial and social service system. Participates will obtain a better understanding of the mandating reporting process and learn best questions to ask after a client has disclosed. Play therapy techniques will be taught such as: helping your client handle the stress and trauma that these abuses produce and helping children feel safe to discuss their trauma. Participants will learn how to best prepare yourself and your clients for testifying will be covered. A mock court will be held with a panel of professional court personnel for questions and insight.

Overview of definitions of Child Abuse and Neglect: types of Abuse and what to look for, effects of abuse on children and families, mandated reporter information. Why Play Therapy and ways it can help- Play therapy is Evidence Based, Goals for the child and therapist, Avoiding vicarious trauma, When a therapist might have to testify: custody cases, divorce cases, termination of parental rights, criminal cases, human trafficking, juvenile cases

Cancellation policy:
Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state. For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training.
