Essentials in Using Expressive Arts in Play Therapy

This workshop is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced play therapist, school counselors, teachers, social workers, and anyone who works with children.  Participants will gain beginning and advanced techniques in Play Therapy. Participants will also gain knowledge about integrating expressive art techniques into their current scope of practice.  Participates will learn play therapy techniques that they can use with children immediately.

PRESENTERS:

Jennie Wilson is a  Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor.  In 2016 Jennie received the Katherine Boone Outstanding Play Therapist Award from the Missouri Association for Play Therapy.  Jennie obtained her play therapy training through Mid America Nazarene’s Play Therapy Certificate Program.    She has been trained in TFCBT, Theraplay, Autplay and recently completed EMDR training.  Jennie is in private practice, and her clinical specialties include childhood and adolescent issues as well as educating other professionals in the field.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify the different modalities of expressive therapies used in a play therapy room

  • Identify expressive therapy techniques or interventions at each developmental age level
  • Implement expressive therapy techniques or interventions with their clients in play therapy sessions

  • Explain how neurodevelopment is relevant to expressive arts and play therapy interventions.  Participants will be able to articulate research supporting the use of expressive arts and play therapy

  • Demonstrate how to use expressive arts and play therapy in a group setting

  • Understand the importance of the therapeutic relationship with regards to the efficacy of using expressive techniques in play therapy sessions.

  • Identify ways to adapt some play therapy interventions for cultural sensitivity, through the expressive media chosen

DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will provide an overview of the different categories or modalities in expressive arts therapies used in play therapy as well as interventions for attendees to implement in their own schools, agencies and private practices.  Workshop Attendees will find this workshop to be interactive, and should come prepared to participate in the various play therapy interventions and activities that will be presented. 

 

Cancellation policy

Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state.  For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training.
