Autism and Play Therapy

  •  Identify three reasons why Play Therapy is beneficial to apply when working with children on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Describe how the Gross Model of Emotion Regulation can help therapist plan meaningful play therapy interventions to use in client sessions with children on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Identify steps needed to create a sensory bag which can be replicated in play therapy sessions.
  • Discuss how play therapy techniques can be modified depending on the degree of a client’s dysregulation level.
  • Describe the importance of play therapy techniques being replicated in a variety of settings when working with children on the Autism Spectrum.
The presentation focuses on the benefits of implementing play therapy sessions with children on the autism spectrum. A model of emotion regulation will be explained, to show the importance of planning play therapy prevention techniques. Techniques will focus on the sensory needs of many children on the Autism Spectrum as well as activities focusing on regulation. Consideration in design and implementation of structured techniques will be covered. Several play therapy techniques will be presented addressing typical autism issues.

How are workshop topics decided?

Yearly, during the annual conference, attendees share what topics that they would like to see presented in the future.

How are the regional workshop locations decided?

Our state board rotates the regional workshops throughout the areas of the state, giving each part of the state the opportunity to have a workshop close to home.

How do you decide who your presenters are?

Yearly, during the annual conference, attendees share possible Missouri APT member professionals that they would like to that they would like to hear present topics that they specialize in.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation policy:  Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state.  For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training..
