Dance & Movement Play Therapy Techniques with Children

This workshop is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced play therapist, teachers, social workers, and anyone who works with children.  Participates will get a brief overview of dance and movement theory and will learn play therapy techniques that they can use with children and their families in individual and group settings immediately. 

PRESENTERS:

Erin Golden is a licensed clinical psychologist working for Ozark Community Hospital in Springfield, MO.  There she sees a wide variety of people ranging from children through teens, adults, and senior citizens and issues ranging from, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, family problems, behavioral deregulation, and trauma.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.  She went on to complete her Master’s and Doctorate’s in Clinical Psychology at Forest Institute. She has been with the Missouri Association for Play Therapy for many years and has acted as a southwest area rep, treasurer, and president elect.

Kate Weir has 10 years of experience working in the counseling profession with children, teens, young adults and families. Kate received both her Master’s and Educational Specialist degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her Master’s degree is in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Community Agency Counseling. Kate is certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Professional School Counselor (grades K-12), is a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and is approved by the state of Missouri as a licensure supervisor for counselors-in-training and provisionally licensed professional counselors in the State of Missouri.  Kate is a member of the American Counseling Association and she is the Past President of the Missouri Association for Play Therapy. She is passionate about and dedicated to obtaining continuing professional development, education, and peer supervision in order to continue to grow as a professional. Currently, Kate practices privately in Columbia, Missouri. In her private practice, Kate provides Individual therapy for children, teens, and young adults. She also provides parent and school consultation and works closely with families.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Facilitate dance and movement play therapy techniques that support positive emotional, social, cognitive, and behavioral changes in young children.
  • Brief overview of Freudian, Jungian, and object relations theories of dance and movement as well as overarching major theme across theoretical orientations which are utilized in play therapy.
  • 3 play therapy techniques involving dance and movement techniques for children and their families that participants can take home and use immediately
  • Create an appropriate and positive dance and movement play therapy session with a child, group, or family.

Cancellation policy

Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state.  For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training.
