Description: This training focuses on using board games (traditional, therapeutic, therapist created, and tablet games) in play therapy. Typical uses, special considerations, and skill gains related to using board games in play therapy will be covered. Play therapy approaches that integrate board games will be presented along with examples of the therapeutic powers of play. Ways to incorporate board games to align with treatment goals will be covered. Several popular board games will be discussed with examples of modification for a more therapeutic experience. Video clip examples will be presented, and experiential exercises provided.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1) Define at least four common uses for board games in play therapy.
2) Describe special considerations when using board games in play therapy.
3) Differentiate categories of board games including traditional, therapeutic, therapist created, and tablet games.
4) Name at least five ways to modify traditional board games in ways that are more therapeutic and address play therapy treatment goals.
5) Explain at least 10 board game interventions to use in pay therapy.
6) Describe special considerations when using tablets in play therapy sessions.
PRESENTER: Dr. Robert Jason Grant is a licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and Advanced Certified Autism Specialist. He owns and operates the Robert Jason Grant Ed.D AutPlay Therapy Clinic.
Dr. Grant specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
He is the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an ASD and neurodevelopmental disorders therapy incorporating play therapy, behavioral therapy, and relationship development approaches. He is also a Certified Autism Movement Therapy provider and trained in many established ASD treatment approaches. Dr. Grant is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy, a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/trauma related therapy for children and adults.
Dr. Grant is an international speaker and keynote presenter having presented for the American Counseling Association, Association for Play Therapy, American Mental Health Counselors Association, and The World Autism Congress. He is a multi-published author of several articles, book chapters, and books including the following best-selling books:

Dr. Grant is a founding board member for the non-profit organization Stars for Autism. He is a current board member for the Association for Play Therapy. He is also a part time instructor in the Play Therapy Certificate program at Mid America Nazarene University (MNU).

**Cancellation policy:
Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state. For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training.
