Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce:
Using Play Therapy to help the child heal
June 11, 2021 from 9 am to 4 PM

This workshop will review the three types of divorce and the effects on children from a developmental perspective. Stages of grief associated with divorce and separation will be discussed to give a theoretical framework as well as tasks that are useful in helping families work through this transition. A review of the negative effects of a high conflict divorce on children will be explored identifying parental alienation characteristics. Play Therapy Techniques that help children express feelings, regulate emotions, and
improve family communication will be covered. We will review practical treatment considerations from working with both parents to addressing legal considerations. Play Therapy Interventions to help build assertiveness, confront parents, and develop effective coping strategies will be reviewed as well as modifications for a group Play format. Experiential activities will be used to help parents gain insight into the child’s world and develop transition contracts to help reduce conflicts.

10 Minute Techniques:Play Therapy
Interventions for School-age Children.
June 12, 2021 at 9 AM to 4 PM

Are you looking for a workshop to learn innovative Play Therapy techniques and rejuvenate your spirit? Then make time to attend this training! This interactive workshop will focus on empirically-influenced interventions for children ages 5 to 11. A variety of Play Therapy interventions will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to interact with the activities to gain mastery and understanding. Topics covered include: anger management, grief/trauma resolution, anxiety reduction, and positive behavior management. We will cover the theoretical rational for using play-based interventions with
school age kids then engage in several experiential activities to help manage a variety of common school problems. The workshop will be presented on PowerPoint with supporting video content. All handouts will be provided.

1. Participants will identify key developmental differences between children and adolescents.
2. Participants will list three benefits of directive and non-directive Play Therapy Interventions.
3. Participants will role-play Play Therapy interventions to manage and express aggressive
4. Participants will identify benefits of social skills group Play therapy versus role-play.
5. Participants will list over 10 Play Therapy techniques to manage a variety of behaviors.

How are workshop topics decided?

Yearly, during the annual conference, attendees share what topics that they would like to see presented in the future.

How are the regional workshop locations decided?

Our state board rotates the regional workshops throughout the areas of the state, giving each part of the state the opportunity to have a workshop close to home.

How do you decide who your presenters are?

Yearly, during the annual conference, attendees share possible Missouri APT member professionals that they would like to that they would like to hear present topics that they specialize in.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation policy:  Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state.  For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training..
