Play Therapy 101: Keys to Effective Use of Play Therapy

This workshop is designed for the beginner as well as a refresher for the advanced play therapist, school counselor, teacher, social worker and anyone who works with children. Participants will gain knowledge of the basics of play therapy, understanding the Child- Centered approach and strategies for implementing play therapy with clients. Participants will also obtain the tools needed for conducting play therapy on to go and in the schools. Participants will learn techniques they can use with children immediately.

PRESENTER

Katie Clayton is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor with 15+ years of experience in the field. Katie obtained her play therapy training through Mid America Nazarene’s Play Therapy Certificate Program. At present, Katie enjoys working with children and families at her private practice and occasionally presenting trainings to others interested in using play therapy in their work. When not working, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids or spending time outdoors!

DESCRIPTION

This workshop is designed for all those of you who are interested in learning more about play therapy or those of you who know some basics but want to learn more about how to implement this effective approach in a variety of settings including in-home and in schools. This workshop will lay a foundation for understanding how play therapy works, how a therapist’s approach can increase positive change in therapy, and how to utilize various skills needed for effective play therapy. Attendees will come away with an understanding of materials needed and how to implement play therapy sessions in different settings as well as an array of child-centered play therapy skills that are guaranteed to create positive change with the children you are working with.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocates training to another region of the state. For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT CREDIT  will be provided to attendees for the amount paid, and can be used at a future MAPT training.
